Hello fellow textile lover!
Welcome to Creating Brain Designs, my online design studio where you can discover textile prints perfect for every home décor item in the house, from furniture statement pieces to the finishing touches in your favorite room. I first started Creating Brain Designs because I found that there just weren’t enough textiles available on the market calling to my eclectic desires. I wanted to fill that space and creatively address what the industry was missing.
Design is such a personal journey for me. I’m a full-time marketing manager in the fine art industry and designing digital textiles is my primary creative outlet and how I love to explore the visual world. I first came across digital textiles while studying apparel and textiles as an industry. I took it upon myself to learn how to create them, mostly because at every turn I found myself enjoying what I was learning and only wanting to find out more. From mastering technical skills to evolving my own conceptual ideas, the creative pursuit is really what gave me momentum. It’s so rewarding too, especially when I’ve made it to the test printing phase. Within a single photograph I can find 20 motifs or more to pull out and manipulate -- cut, flip, invert, color adjust -- creating without any preconceived ideas or limits, which means I am always thrilled and surprised by my end results (I’m like a mad scientist in the lab for hours). Touching that first round of fabric for quality control is my favorite part.
If you are drawn to the concepts of wabi sabi, I think you’ll enjoy my designs. My textiles collections showcase how you can find unbelievable and unexpected beauty in objects that are timeworn, weathered, and imperfect. As a designer, I actively source textures, patterns, and colors from materials and surfaces that are impacted by time and exposed to the natural elements. That means I lovingly spend hours studying wet rocks, burned surfaces, aged wood, peeling paint, or the rusted hulls of abandoned boats in a shipyard. I often think to myself that it is when things are at the end of their life cycles that they are most ready to be noticed and their beauty, so often overlooked, is ready to be discovered.
When you bring one of my textiles into your home, my hope is that it starts a conversation for you and your family and guests -- that there is something thought-provoking in what you see that intrigues both your eye and mind. Because my textiles are really an opportunity to welcome the abstract into your world, an invitation to see a very particular type of beauty that is not representational or ideal but open to interpretation, and beautiful all the same. To me, that is the absolute epitome of finding beauty in our surroundings.
I hope you’ll browse and shop my latest designs on Spoonflower.com to find that special something for your home. And I’m always open to conversation about collaboration and new projects, so don’t hesitate to contact me at creatingbraindesigns@gmail.com.
Cheers to our creative paths and all the surprising places they take us! Enjoy!
